  • I am Ms. Godoy, and I am thrilled to be one of Viewlands new second-grade teachers! Leading Cascadia was an incredible experience that helped prepare me for my position as the principal at Decatur Elementary School. My major goals are to inspire and enable all students to ask relevant questions worth answering, and empower them to find relevant answers because: 1) they are scientifically literate members of society AND/OR 2) they can devise a way to answer these questions through their own resources and problem solving. Outside of work I can be found biking, skiing, dancing, hiking, walking my dog around Greenlake, and playing soccer and Ultimate frisbee. After graduating in 2004, I joined the staff at Sammamish High School in Bellevue, earned my National Board Certification, taught almost every level of math (except statistics, which is not my favorite), and never thought I would leave. I earned my BA with a double-major in Spanish and Sociology from UW, my first MA in Hispanic Studies from UW, and my second MA in Iberian and Latin American Languages and Cultures from UT Austin. Some things I love about Nova are the individualized attention that I get with students, that students are involved in decision making, and the ability to teach towards my passion. That means you might find me in the school administering tests to students, interviewing parents, teachers, and staff, observing in the classrooms, and writing reports in my office! At this time, I also dove in and subbed in Edmonds for 8th grade PE, Kindergarten music, and whatever else they would give me on an emergency credential. I grew up in Kirkland and currently own a condo in Mill Creek. I have been teaching art over a decade, everything from kindergarten up to 12thgrade, but I have spent the last 6 years at Viewlands. Needless to say, my first language and cultural background has been a rich resource in my learning and teaching and has set a precedent for how I wish to approach my students as well. As a school-based occupational therapist, I am part of the special education team. My first three years I taught visual art at a high school in Colorado and I have also worked with middle school students in West Seattle. I'm hoping to help my students realize not only the honor it is to learn how to become a human but to also realize the responsibility they have to center others and their world while they engage in that process.
